Shock Absorbers Are Your Friends
Yes, we all know that our car or truck has shock absorbers. That piece of information should come as no shock (sorry for the pun but I couldn’t help myself). But do we all know how to do maintenance on those shocks? Do we even know when those shocks need maintenance? Well read on and you just might be enlightened.
It is fairly safe to say that the average driver never gives his or her shocks a thought. After all, those things are underneath your vehicle and it’s dirty down there and hey, what’s the big deal as long as the vehicle is running, right?
Well here is a simple test that you can do the next time you are in a parking lot: drive your vehicle about ten miles per hour and then hit your brakes. If your vehicle keeps rocking in the front after you have braked then there is a real good chance you need new shocks.
For those of you who like to get down and dirty, go under your car/truck and check the shock tubes for dents and oil leaks. You should also look out for loose mounting bolts and worn mounting blushings.
None of these maintenance checks are difficult to do and they only require about ten minutes of your time but they are so worth it. Bad shock absorbers not only mean a rather rough, bumpy ride, but they will also affect your cornering and braking and that, my friends, is something to be concerned about. And remember that your shock absorbers are only a part of the entire suspension system, so bad shocks can lead to a bad suspension and now we are talking major bucks to repair.
The good news is the maintenance checks are easy to do, even for a novice. The other good news is that shock absorbers are not a major expense and just about anyone can replace them. The bad news is that if you don’t take care of this stuff you can be looking at a major repair bill if you are not mechanically inclined or you don’t have a son-in-law you can bribe to do the work for you.
And now for the really good news. This month, the month of October, if you go to our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/iluvused you can get a coupon good for 30% off any one item Monday through Friday. That is a 30% discount on shocks and that is a great deal for replacement auto parts.
Remember, at Cash-n-Carry we already have huge discounts simply because we are a You Pull It salvage yard, so taking 30% off of what is already a great price means you are getting green recycled auto parts for a great, great price.
