The Battery: An Irreplaceable Car Part

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

Ask someone who knows nothing about cars to name an important part of a car and chances are most will name the battery. Now, ask that same person how the battery works and we are willing to bet they won’t have a clue. And yet the automotive battery works on one of the most basic of scientific principles, reminding us each time we turn the key that no matter where you are so too are neutrons, protons and electrons.

A car battery is a rechargeable battery and it supplies energy for starting, lighting and igniting a vehicle. In other words, the battery provides power to the starter motor, the lights, and the ignition system of your car. Without a battery you may as well start power-walking.

What are they made of: Plates of lead and separate plates of lead dioxide, which are submerged in an electrolyte solution of sulfuric acid and water? When the sulfuric acid mixes with the water a chemical reaction occurs that releases electrons and they flow through conductors to produce electricity. Like we said, elementary science each and every time you turn your vehicle on.

Batteries have improved greatly over the past few decades; at one time the fluid level needed to be checked continually as the level went down as the chemical reactions occurred, but unless there is a leak or a cracked battery case this is no longer a problem. What is a problem with batteries, however, is what to do with them when they no longer serve their purpose because you see, toxic lead and sulfuric acid are not good for the environment…..no, not good at all.

Here is where we at Cash-n-Carry think we serve a really cool dual purpose. As you know, on our Savannah salvage yard we have about as many batteries as you will ever want to see and chances are excellent that whatever replacement battery you need we will have it. Simply bring your tools and You Pull It for great savings.

But the second part of our cool purpose is that when it is time to discard that battery you can bring it to us because at our scrap division Cars and Cores we buy scrap batteries. So you not only can buy your used part (battery) from us at a great discount but you can sell it back to us for cash in hand when it no longer works. Now that, my friends, is a great deal. Salvage parts at Cash-n-Carry, where the customer comes first.
