So why scrap you ask? Why has Cash-n-Carry opened this new division, Cars and Cores, and entered the scrap business in such a big way?

There is no one, simple answer to that question. Certainly our Savannah salvage yard has been successful over the years and with our loyal customer base we don’t feel a need to expand just for the sake of expanding. This decision to become not only a salvage yard but a scrapyard is based more upon the realization that it is the right thing to do for the environment. The scrap business is the wave of the future and more and more businesses look to recycling scrap metals in order to save the environment and cut back on energy use. We at Cash-n-Carry just feel that scrap is a natural extension of our existing business and by paying cash for scrap batteries, scrap metal, scrap radiators, etc, we are doing what we should be doing as stewards of this planet.

How big a business is scrap in America? Well, yearly more than 85 million tons of iron and steel are recycled and processed. Over 1.8 million tons of copper, 2 million tons of stainless steel, and 5.5 million tons of aluminum are also recycled. Interestingly this is one of the few industries that contributes positively to America’s balance of trade, exporting over $16 billion in scrap products each year. Practically every part of an automobile can be recycled so when we say we buy any car, whether it is running or not, there is method to our madness. That junk car sitting in your backyard, the one your neighbors hate but your squirrels love, that pile of scrap is music to our ears. We can take practically every piece of that scrap and our car dismantlers will break it down and recycle it, thus beautifying your yard and neighborhood and saving on natural resources and energy in the process.

So let’s all do our part! If you don’t want to sell us the entire junk car then sell us selected parts. We will buy scrap radiators, scrap transmissions, scrap batteries, scrap aluminum, scrap copper, whatever. Check out our Cars and Cores section for more information on the scrap parts we will buy, or save yourself some dismantling headaches and sell us the whole darn car. Either way you will be helping the environment in a big way.
