Scrap Metal Facts and Figures
So we have been talking a lot about scrap and how it is good for the environment. Let’s take a closer look at that statement and give you an idea of just how good scrap recycling is for Mother Earth.
In terms of using recycled scrap metal instead of virgin iron ore we can reduce the following:
- 75% savings in energy
- 90% savings in raw materials used
- 86% reduction in air pollution
- 40% reduction in use of water
- 76% reduction in water pollution
- 97% reduction in mining wastes.
But it’s not just iron ore we can save. Read on:
- 95% energy savings because of recycled aluminum
- 85% energy savings using recycled copper
- 65% energy savings using recycled lead
- 60% energy savings using recycled zinc
Still not convinced that recycling scrap metal is worthwhile? How about these figures:
- Every ton of new steel made from scrap steel saves 1,115 kg of iron ore
- Every ton of new steel made from scrap steel saves 625 kg of coal
- Every ton of new steel made from scrap steel saves 53 kg of limestone
And even if you are not into saving natural resources, the effect of saving the landscape from the blight of mining is enormous. Drive by the city of Butte, Montana sometime and then try to claim that mining is a lovely sight on the American landscape.
The figures above came from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency lest you think we are randomly naming figures. There is simply no logical reason why a person would not want to recycle. At Cars and Cores we have made it about as simple as we can for you to recycle scrap metal or scrap a car. Simply call us, we will give you a quote on the scrap item or scrap car, and we will pay you cash. You make some money, you get rid of ugly scrap, we make money, and we all help the environment. This is about as good a deal as you are apt to run into in the near future.
So let’s all dive in and see what we can do to help ourselves and our planet. Give our scrapyard/salvage yard a call and let’s start attacking scrap with a vengeance.
