Auto Parts are Readily Available; Shop Around for Best Prices
So you need to replace a part for your car? For some of you this is a daunting task. There are over 2000 parts on the average vehicle and close to 400 models currently made in the world. That multiplies out to approximately 800,000 replacement parts for current models. Now think in terms of the number of years that those models have been made and the number is staggering. Where does the average guy or gal go to find one particular part of one particular model for one particular year? Yikes!
But do not despair! The task at hand is not nearly as formidable as it may at first seem. Your first option is to buy from an auto parts store like Auto Zone or Schucks. There are literally thousands of these auto parts stores in America. If they don’t have the replacement part you need on hand they can get it to you within a couple days. However, be prepared to pay a fairly hefty price for the part.
Another option is to check the classifieds for used cars for sale. With a little luck and some tenacity you will find junked cars for sale that match your needs, in which case you are saving considerable money for a used auto part and you have the rest of the car around in case you should need another part replaced at some point in time. Investing this way will truly save you thousands of dollars over the long run.
My personal favorite option, and one that takes me back to my childhood days, is to go to a salvage yard, otherwise known as a junkyard or wrecking yard. This option really is like a quest for the Holy Grail, one my father and I experienced together many times. Talk about a great father-son bonding experience! The large salvage yards in America literally have millions of used parts available for the customer willing to get a little dirty. Please don’t think you have to blindly roam about in search of a model of car that matches yours. Computer inventories have made this quest much easier. Just simply call a U Pull It junkyard, tell them what you need, and a computer search of their inventory will tell you immediately if they have it in their yard. If they do you head on down to their place, pull the part you need, and save up to 60% on the replacement cost. And as an added bonus you have some fun with your son or daughter and you carry on an American tradition.
Can you trust in the part you buy at a salvage yard? If they are reputable they will have warranties on their parts and guarantee them for a certain amount of time after purchase. If the yard you visit does not have a warranty, go somewhere else. As in any business, there are disreputable dealers out there that should be avoided. No sense in replacing a part on your car only to replace it once again in a month.
Buying a replacement part for your vehicle does not have to be a headache waiting to happen. The internet and a competitive market have made this a fairly simple process for someone willing to do a little research and get their hands dirty.
