Cheap Cars Can Save You Money
The scenario is this: you have a fairly new used car and you plan on keeping it as either your primary or secondary means of transportation for many years. This means you are facing car repair costs during that time. Now, the question is this: what is the best way to save on car repair costs over that period of ownership?
The answer may surprise you but it is one that has been used for many years. Buy a damaged car for sale and use the spare parts from that car as replacement parts for your new car. This solution requires some flexibility on the part of the owner but it literally will save you thousands in car repair over the years.
Obviously you will need a place to store your parts car because your neighbors are not going to be happy seeing a junked car in your front yard. You will need the necessary tools and the courage to do the repairs yourself, or at the very least a relative or friend with the tools and required courage.
But the first step is to find a match for the year, make and model of your beloved car. Depending on what you drive, this can be fairly easy or fairly difficult, but with patience it is entirely possible. Cheap cars and/or damaged cars are easy to find. Internet sites like ebay motors give you a large inventory to choose from right at your fingertips. Check out the newspaper want ads under “damaged cars for sale” and you just might get lucky. Or visit your friendly neighborhood salvage yard and see if your parts car is there.
Remember that damage to the body is not important with regards to the engine; it takes a pretty horrific accident to damage engine parts, on par with the car getting hit by a train. So don’t be turned off at first sight of the damaged car for sale. Your only concern is the shape of the engine, powertrain, and other major parts of the car.
Considering the cost of replacement parts and the labor to install them, this is a viable option for anyone planning on keeping a car for quite a few years. A cheap car for sale may only run you a couple hundred dollars, especially if it is damaged, and a couple hundred dollars is literally the cost of one part replacement at an auto repair shop. If you own a car for five years with an average of one repair per year at an average cost of $200 per repair, you are looking at $1000 in repairs. It does not take an Einstein to see the kinds of savings available for an enterprising person willing to do the work themselves. So get out there and start searching for a cheap car and let the savings begin
